About Texas A&M University-Commerce

Texas A&M University-Commerce, also known as TAMU-Commerce or TAMU-C, is a public university, member of the Texas A&M University System, located in Commerce, which is a city in Hunt County, in the US state of Texas, with a population estimated at a number of nearly 8000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census, although, recent estimates suggest that its population has risen at nearly 10 000.

TAMU-Commerce was established in 1889 and began functioning under the name of East Texas Normal College, its current name being adopted in 1996, when it became a part of the Texas A&M University System. It offers its students, today, who number more than 10 000, educational programs in a wide range of study areas, being classified as a DRU (Doctoral/Research University) by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Athletics

TAMU-C's sports teams are nicknamed the Lions and they compete in NCAA Division II, in the Lone Star Conference, in 5 sports for men and 6 for women.
